Roland, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of music equipment makes a line of percussion instruments called V-Drums. They are a completely electronic drum set. When you strike them, Instead of making sound acoustically they use electronic triggers which tell a synthesizer to create a variety of drum sounds.
Features:
Though Roland makes many models of V-Drum kits, they all have one feature in common: the drum triggers. Drum triggers are the replacement for the tradition drumhead. They are constructed with materials that allow them to be virtually silent when struck with a drumstick. Instead of being made of leather or polyester, they’re made of rubber or fiberglass with an electronic sensor underneath. All of the drum triggers and cymbal triggers are constructed similarly, but they can be made into many shapes. Aside from the drum and cymbal triggers, most standard V-Drum kits come a with an aluminum frame to hold everything up, as well as the synthesizer or “sound module.”
The sound module is the brain of the V-Drum kit. All of the drum triggers connect to the sound module through cables with a 6.35 mm audio plug. When the sound module receives the electrical signal produced by the drum trigger, it creates a preset sound. Typically drum triggers come pre-programmed with hundreds or even thousands of sounds that you can choose from.

Benefits:
The biggest and most apparent benefit of V-Drums is that they are virtually silent. That is, unless you hook them up to an amplifier. When played while the drummer is wearing headphones, the sound that is made by the drumsticks hitting the drum triggers is very minimal. Not much louder than soft conversation.
Another benefit of the Roland V-Drums is the selection of drum and cymbal sounds. If you were to buy every instrument that has its sound programmed into a Roland sound module it would cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Portability:
With each drum trigger being only a fraction of the size of a traditional acoustic drum, Roland V-Drums have a huge advantage when it comes to portability. Broken down, an entire V-Drum kit would take up far less room than an acoustic kit.
Sound Quality:
Roland pre-programs their sound modules with the highest quality drum samples available. And with the V-Drums being a digital instrument you don’t have to worry about drum heads wearing out or cymbals warping and making the sound suffer.
